Sycamore is a moderately hard wood with interwoven fibers, which gives it an added dimension of "toughness" and split resistance. It has a close texture, and turns well on a lathe. It also glues and finishes well. Sycamore "toughness" makes it an ideal choice for chopping blocks, handles, interior trim, musical instruments, drawer siding, church pews and furniture. Sycamore has a "self lubricating" characteristic making it an ideal choice for drawer side and table glides. The sapwood of Sycamore is white to light yellow. Heartwood varies from a very light brown to reddish brown. Its color, bending qualities and very prominent grain pattern make Sycamore a good alternative to less available species such as Beech.
